History

Ribstone Ranch is a fitting name for the community proposed to be built on these lands. In 1949, these acres became the second home to a robust cattle ranch – Ribstone Cattle Co. Ltd – proudly owned and operated by Harold Hunt Senior and his family. The Hunt Family’s cattle ranch had an earlier history on lands located in Sullivan Lake, Alberta where a sacred Native relic rested atop its rolling hills. A stone, known as a Ribstone, had been carved to represent the ribs of a bison – one of many thousands that used to inhabit this prairie – and the site had a deep spiritual meaning for local Native tribes. The Hunt Family adopted the name Ribstone for their cattle ranching operation and their pairing of the words Ribstone and Ranch is again adopted as the name for this proposed community.
